How I work
I am an integrative therapist. This means I use different models and theories to help you work through your problems in order to become more self-aware, self accepting, and ultimately to move forward with life.
My core theoretical training is humanistic, meaning you will be the expert in the room on the subject of you. After all, you are the person who has experienced your life, not me! The idea with humanistic counselling is that I help you get it out of your head ‘onto the ‘table’ so to speak, so we can both explore things more clearly. After all, two heads are better than one.
Whilst I work with a range of issues/problems, my specialist subject is working with individuals who have, or who are close to someone who has, a life-shortening illness. My experience within a medical setting, and personal family events, have demonstrated how a diagnosis of a critical or life-changing illness can change everything for all those involved. It creates a need for a massive re-evaluation of what is (now) important and what needs focusing on. This ‘shift’ in the meaning of life and death might be called an existential crisis. I can offer a therapeutic space, where we can explore the changes to your life, including looking closely at how to cope with the constraints of the situation. You may also need a space to grieve, and of course, counselling is an excellent space for this.
My fees are £45 per hour. There is an expectation that, once we have established if we are a good match to work together, you will commit to at least a few sessions in order to give the counselling process a fair chance of being helpful.
